The city expertly straddles the line between modern and traditional, prim and free spirited. The atmosphere is more vibrant and less formal, not at all robotic, which you can sometimes get the impression of from the depressing black suits and stoic expressions that cram Tokyo's street crossings. And yet, Osaka is not completely wild or rural either, surrounded by the trappings of modernity.
